Talking Therapy

Trauma support and help with an experienced and trained ACC counsellor and social worker

Talking therapy is a method of understanding our thinking, behaviour, relationships and needs in order to make positive changes. Talking therapy is usually conducted kanohi ki te kanohi (face to face) or via phone or video with a trained and experienced clinician. Talking therapy is an umbrella term that includes many ways of treating issues through the use of conversation. Each clinician will likely be trained and specialised in multiple areas and it is important that you find a clinician and modality/therapy that align with you. The aim of talking therapy will be based on what you would like to address which will be clarified during your initial sessions.

At Mokonui Talk we are trained and are experienced using a number of modalities in a therapeutic setting these include; CBT, DBT, Mindfulness techniques, Trauma Informed, Motivational Interviewing and attachment theory. As social workers we use our background and social work training to support people from a holistic framework. This means we can look at the bigger picture for you and your whānau and work with you all to create a therapy space that feels right.

It can be a good idea to come to your initial sessions with questions in mind and have an idea or goals of what you’d like to achieve. You are welcome to bring a support person to any sessions. We are open to meeting you outside of the office, we understand sitting face to face in a closed in space can be difficult for some. We will chat with you to create a plan you feel comfortable with.

Talking therapy is available on an individual basis or for multiple people such as couples. Individual plans are created based on needs and will be discussed within the initial meeting.
